From Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Res. Asst. Tuğçe Öztürk presented her Ph.D. thesis proposal within the scope of Bahçeşehir University, Architecture and Design doctoral education. At the end of the thesis proposal jury held in the Fall Term of 2022-2023, the thesis topic "Examining the Socio-Spatial Impact of the Governing Methods in the 21st Century in Istanbul, Beyoğlu and Evaluating Its Consequences from the Urban Realm to the Interior Spaces", approved to work within the scope of doctoral thesis.

“The management styles of cities and social events affect the spaces.”

Öztürk said that the management styles of the cities and the social events experienced caused some changes from the public space to the interior spaces. She underlined that these changes, caused by the decisions taken by the city administration and the social events that took place, affect the spaces from the city scale to the interior space scale over time. Defining the subject of the thesis she is preparing as the investigation of the socio-spatial effects of the management methods, the decisions taken and the reflections of the social events experienced in Istanbul, Beyoğlu in the 21st century, from the urban scale to the interior spaces. Öztürk focuses on the changes that occurred in the urban space and interior spaces in the 21st century and the effects of these changes. She emphasized that it should be discussed over the concept of "genius loci". Noting that the most suitable region for conducting the relevant research is the Beyoğlu District of Istanbul, Öztürk said that Beyoğlu offers a uniquely rich material in the context of the changes and transformations it has undergone and is going through, in the context of the debates on the concept of "place".

We congratulate Res. Asst. Tuğçe Öztürk and wish her continued success.
