Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol, Head of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), presented his paper titled “Architectural Design Approaches for Controlled Sunlight Utilization in Buildings for Xeroderma Pigmentosum Patients” at the 9th International Socrates Congress on Health, Engineering, and Applied Sciences, held at Istanbul Gelişim University from July 16-18.
In his study, Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol focused on the controlled use of sunlight in buildings to improve the quality of life for Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP) patients. He shared innovative architectural proposals that address the needs of XP patients, a rare genetic condition characterized by extreme sensitivity to UV rays. Erol emphasized the importance of designing environments where these patients can live safely. His work highlighted solutions such as filtering natural light, using shading structures, and special glass systems to ensure that XP patients are both protected from the sun and can benefit from natural light. He stated that his goal is to contribute to the healthier and more comfortable lives of these patients.
We congratulate Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol and wish him continued success.
