Semester Message of Department Head Assistant Professor Dr. Metin Kuş

A very important design principle says: “Whole is bigger than the sum of all the parts and it is nothing more than the sum”. As Istanbul Gelisim University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Graphic Design, we are aware of the fact that our students will be an important part of a larger sum.

Our most important goal is to comprehend the requirements and expectations of the education and business world which is ongoing a rapid change and transformation in the world and in our country and to design the arrangements which will determine the students’ lives after they graduate. The most important aspect of this future design is the education process. The field of graphic design and education is one of the areas that are not most suitable for standardization due to its unique characteristics. For this reason, a student-centered education model is applied in which knowledge, skills and equipment required by the field are provided; while at the same time, each student's characteristics are considered and developed. Because graphic design education is based on the structure of the students and it is student-centered. The Department of Graphic Design aims to increase the students’ knowledge, artistic creativity and visual communication skills to a level above those required by the field in the process of a student centered, four-year education based on modern education.
 
Our curriculum is planned to realize this and it has been designed by considering each semester as setting the ground for the next one. The aim to train professional designers who are competent in graphic design by organizing typography, form, visual design, printing process, packaging, illustration and other information required by the field in visual communication is placed within the training process.
 
In this way, we will be able to carry out all kinds of projects in the field of Graphic Design supported by lectures, workshops, exhibitions, panels, conferences and applications and to ensure Turkey is moving forward in the field that will enable the design process to be a sustainable design that is compatible with the environment and society with contribution to universal culture.
 
Our graduates who successfully complete this program, organize comprehensive design processes in their field individually or as part of group work, implement planned tasks in desired and timely manner, associate their knowledge gained in Graphic Design with higher academic education processes or associate them with a different field discipline with the power to work and produce on every platform.
