It is Ankara's first art museum. The museum, which had a few artifacts in its inventory in its first years, was founded in 1990 by Gazi University Painting Education Department Head Prof. Dr. It was restructured by Yüksel Bingöl and renamed as Gazi University Painting and Sculpture Museum. The foundation of the museum, which dates back to the 1930s, is the valuable items, documents and paintings found in the Gazi Education Institute. There are 281 works in the inventory of the museum. The museum consists of three main collections: painting, printmaking and sculpture-ceramic.
After the restructuring of Gazi University Painting and Sculpture Museum, which is the first university and art museum in the capital city and the second in Turkey, the art works met the audience with the opening of the exhibition held in the museum.
Rector Yıldız, who gave various information about the museum, stated that students and citizens can visit the museum during working hours. Yıldız added that they called the museum a 'living museum' and said:
“This year is the 95th anniversary of Gazi University's establishment. In this context, we carry out many activities. Within these activities, we decided to expand the Painting and Sculpture Museum of Gazi University, which was previously located. While making this decision, we called upon our Gazi University graduates to contribute to our museum with your works. We would like to thank all of our artists who responded to our call to donate works to our museum.”
Our teacher, who is in this prestigious collection with a valuable work, Prof. Dr. We congratulate Erol Yıldır and wish him continued success.
