Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF) Graphic Design Department Prof. Dr. Erol Yıldır's book "İSTİNG-The Felt Art of the Chechen People" was awarded in the "Cultural Heritage" category of the Interregional National Book Festival held in Russia's Ryazan Oblast.
"The book is about 'Chechen Felt Spread Samples', which were compiled as a result of field research that started in the Caucasian origin settlements in Turkey in 1987 and carried out under very difficult conditions with a personal effort. It is also the only scientific resource. The felt mat samples in the book, which is a source work for the Traditional Handicrafts, Art History and Textile Departments of universities, have an important place among the Caucasian Handicrafts produced in Turkey after the great Caucasian exile. This importance increases even more when we remember that the artifacts in question are the last material remains of the living members of a vanished culture.
(From the Promotion Bulletin)
'İSTİNG-Chechen-Ingush People's Felt Art', published by Cross Culture Publishing House in 2015, is both an important scientific resource and a documentation in terms of reminding a culture that is about to disappear. The translation of the book "ISTING", which presents the felt art of the Chechen-Ingush people and has archival value, into Russian is very valuable in terms of reaching a larger number of readers. It was undertaken by Saltaeva-Akbulak.
Mr. Prof. Dr. We congratulate Erol Yıldır and wish him continued success.
