Session chaired by Prof. Dr. Asuman Seda Saracaloğlu, at the 7th International Congress of Social and Human Education Sciences, Dr. Instructor You can read the summary text of the statement titled "A Glance at Culture and Art in Istanbul After 1980", which was presented by its member Aysun Cançat and which is a mirror held in the cultural and artistic environment of Istanbul for a certain period of time.

‘The 1980s were the years when the first breakthrough and support for the project of transforming Istanbul into a world city in the context of urban transformation. Innovations, changes in all fields and especially advances in technology have accelerated communication, interaction and transportation; This acceleration has greatly affected the fields of culture and arts. These have facilitated the worldwide movement of art, artists and works of art across borders. This movement has been especially important on the way to international art events such as festivals and biennials. In our country, festivals started in 1973 and biennial events started in 1987. However, the opening of new museums and galleries and the development of the field of collecting kept the art alive. In the 2000s, great progress has been made in areas such as museums and collecting. Along with this cultural and artistic activity, it is interesting that Istanbul was chosen as the "European Capital of Culture" in 2010. The Turkish culture and arts environment has entered a period of significant change, especially with the biennial events that started to be organized in the 1980s and are still being held. Because such art events were held in many historical places of our country. The important point here is that historical places are handled with a contemporary interpretation through these events. Another important point is that the administrative dimension of art comes to the fore. With these events in the form of large organizations; The necessity of areas such as boards of directors and curation has emerged. All these developments have presented the culture and art scene in Istanbul with a contemporary, new and dynamic art environment apart from the traditional understanding.'
