Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Head of Graphic Design Department Assoc. Dr. Metin Kuş's solo exhibition titled "Storyless" was opened at Istanbul Gelişim University Gelişim Art Gallery.
“Information and news networks have already turned into entertainment thanks to communication tools. For the silent masses who have completely lost their sense of reality and integrity, only pleasure and spectacles can have value, not "meaning". It is much more important for them not to react and resist, but to be ecstatic and fascinated, as if in a ritual. No one asks anyone what they really are, what they think, or how they feel. The masses, as they exist, do not represent anything, they are only polled every now and then through polls and referenda.”
Jean Baudrillard, In the Shadow of the Silent Masses
Assoc. Dr. Metin Kuş describes his personal exhibition titled “Without a Story” with these words;
“It can be said that intense juxtapositions are unique in the adventure of human existence, as in today's metropolitan life. Wars, migrations and extraordinary situations have made it necessary for many people to come together. In today's metropolitan life, the fact that people appear and disappear without leaving a trace in the minds of another seems to be a feature unique to our day, which makes the gathering of crowds in public spaces different from the previous ones. People who once came together for any reason want to learn the story of the other, make a place in their minds and try to leave a mark in the mind of the other by telling their own story, instead of being distant, hazy, faint but physically very close, where one appears and disappears without leaving any trace in the mind of the other. a dense crowd has turned into a gathering…
As an observer in dense crowds of people, the dynamism, bustle and variability of the crowd have always been inspiring (for me) as a pictorial outlet. Based on this inspiration, these paintings, which I can call visual reflections on the rush, mobility and dynamism of the crowds, were created in such a process. In this context, the basic visual thought that I want to adhere to is that the individuals who make up crowds or gatherings are indefinite and undefined. I also think that this uncertainty coincides with the purely accidental coexistence of a crowd of individuals, which in reality appear and disappear without a trace in my mind. In other words, I can call the physical side-by-side of individuals who have no connection whatsoever with one another as “storyless”. This definition of “without a story” points to the fact that they are together in the frame despite the absence of any narrative, context or relationship between them, which brings together the elements in the content of the painting.”
