 Assoc. Dr. Metin Kuş Presented His Lecture entitled 'DIGITAL ART AND NFT, EXPANSION LIMITS OF ART'

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF) Head of Graphic Design Department Assoc. Dr. Metin Kuş presented his paper titled "DIGITAL ART AND NFT, THE EXPANDING LIMITS OF ART" at the 4th International Symposium on Art and Aesthetics.

From the abstract;

Art, which has always existed with people, and aesthetic approaches that deal with the problem of understanding art, in one aspect, experienced the process of blurring and gradually disappearing of all interdisciplinary boundaries, especially with the postmodern process. The postmodern approach's transformation of all the rejected in the field of art and the almost unlimited possibilities offered by today's digital technology have led to the emergence of completely unique new expression areas that cannot be defined by the references of the past. In this field, which is one of these fields and generally called digital art, it did not seem possible until recently to own a work produced. Because it was not possible to speak of the original of a work that was instantly reproduced in the digital environment and whose millions of copies were put into circulation, and this left the owner of the work unclaimed. However, when it is possible to distinguish the original of a work from all other copies and to protect its uniqueness in the digital area by using blockchain methods, it has also created a new art production and sales area where it is possible to buy and sell this work like other physically produced artworks. In this field called NFT, instead of purchasing a physically produced work of art with the existing payment methods that are physically in circulation, as in traditional methods, it is completely digital or physically produced and transferred to the digital environment, and the original version of the work, which was produced in a limited number, is also a value produced in the digital environment. Buying with digital money and making 'collections' in digital wallets are the most distinctive characteristics of this new process. Another distinctive characteristic of this new formation is that it can include all kinds of digitally produced designs as well as traditional art forms such as photography, painting and sculpture. It has been considered as the subject of this paper to discuss the changes that this new production, exhibition and sharing space may bring about changes in traditionally accepted norms and the need to reconsider the concepts of art/aesthetics in this context.'
