Assoc. Dr. Aysun Cançat started her speech titled “On World Art Day” as follows:
“April 15 is World Art Day. We will focus on this issue today. There was a day for mother's day, father's day, valentine's day and even anything imaginable. But there was no World Art Day. (…) World Art Day was declared on April 15, 2011. With April 15, in fact, art; its impact on individuals, societies and the world has been highlighted.”
Also, Assoc. Dr. Aysun Cançat explained why the World Art Day was chosen as April 15 as follows:
“April 15, the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, has been accepted as World Art Day with the suggestion of Turkish artist and President of the National Plastic Arts Association, Bedri Baykam.”
World Art Day can be explained as a day accepted in 2011 and celebrated on the 15th of April every year since 2012, where art events are organized and streets and streets are decorated with works of art. The World Art Day, which took place for the first time on April 15, 2012, was celebrated with enthusiasm in Abdi İpekçi Street in Istanbul. In addition, various celebrations were held in Maçka Democracy Park and UPSD Art Gallery. Apart from Istanbul, it can be said that it is celebrated with some artistic activities in various cities of Turkey. For example, celebrations and performances were held in the fields of street theater, dance, music, painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, cinema, literature and theater in İzmir.
In addition to this, in the interview, Assoc. Dr. Aysun Cançat talked about the definitions, importance and function of art that has changed in the historical process.
