Assoc. Dr. Aysun Cançat's Article 'Fluxus Readings' Has Been Published!

Associate Professor from Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF) Graphic Design Department. Aysun Cançat's article 'Fluxus Readings' was published in the June issue of ART/icle: Art and Design Magazine.

From the abstract of the article:

Purpose: This study; Fluxus, which radically questions issues such as object in art, artist identity, art-life relationship, presentation and reception of art, has focused on evaluating and analyzing the art movement and the productions made within this movement. Fluxus is a way of doing things in life rather than an art movement or a moment in history; attention has been drawn to its aspects that can move with all kinds of objects, performances, disciplines, and in this context, eliminate the boundaries with visual arts.

Conceptual/Theoretical Framework: The intellectual and stylistic developments that were influential in the emergence of the Fluxus movement were mentioned, and six productions that mirrored this movement were evaluated with their conceptual and philosophical dimensions.

Method: The subject discussed has been examined in the context of art history literature and in terms of self-form, analysis and critical literature review. In addition, a qualitative research process was followed in order to reach realistic and holistic results with the research and analysis of various documents.

Findings: Fluxus artists, their art experiences inspired by daily life; through various performances, films, publications and objects. Fluxus' interdisciplinary approach has contributed to the development of cinema, theater, music and many other fields, as well as bringing new forms of production and conceptual definitions in art.

Conclusion: Fluxus has caused paradigm shifts in art, culture, philosophy and many disciplines. In Modern Art; The understanding that prioritizes visuality, aesthetics, object-centeredness, the uniqueness of the work and the genius of the artist has been questioned by the Fluxus movement and almost overthrown with productions. Rather than the production, exhibition and sale of the work of art, the issues of what art is, the emancipation of the material, the place of art and the artist in society have been brought to the agenda. In today's contemporary art formations, it is possible to see the effects of Fluxus, consciously or unconsciously. At this point, it will be vital for the evaluation and interpretations to correctly perceive this movement that creates ruptures.
