In Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Doğan's article; deals with mosaic art, one of the most important of Roman art, which has affected three continents for about a thousand years in a wide geography from Europe to Africa and from there to Asia, and aims to evaluate the Roman Period mosaics in terms of gastronomic elements. Doğan, who reached a total of fifteen mosaic compositions containing gastronomy elements, determined by the method of document analysis in the study, examined with the method of semiotics. Especially in mosaics; Determining that vegetables, fruits, game animals, large and small cattle, and seafood are used as gastronomy items, Doğan stated that mosaics contain a lot of information about eating and drinking habits and food. He also determined that the Asarotos Oikos Mosaic is an important work in terms of the relationship between art and gastronomy in the Roman Period. As a result, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Doğan stated that besides this information, the Roman mosaic art is a unique source of information about Roman gastronomy.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Doğan's work is one of the first studies made in the context of gastronomy and mosaics in the Ancient Roman Period. Stating that the most difficult issue during the working process was the lack of a compact catalog containing Roman Period mosaics, Doğan added that he hoped the study would serve as a source for new studies and catalogs within the scope of mosaic artifacts and gastronomy.
