We answered the questions of our students from Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), the Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Gastronomy, and Culinary Arts Department about the compulsory summer internship.
When is the earliest I can start my internship?
Within the scope of Summer Internship I and Summer Internship II, students can do their compulsory internship as of the second semester. Students continuing their education can do their internship in the summer term. However, there is no such requirement for graduate students.
Summer semester internships start from the last day of the spring semester final exams. However, before you start your internship as of the last day of the final exams specified in the academic calendar, the internship start date must be notified to our department chair and dean at least 15 days before the internship insurance entry can be made.
Fill in the compulsory internship form on the computer and sign the student signature part. Have the Head of the Department and the internship place officially sign the relevant fields. Have the internship start form approved by student affairs (at least 15 days before the start of the internship) so that the insurance entry can be made.
Do I have to hand-deliver my internship documents?
Those whose internship place is outside of Istanbul; It is required to scan the internship start form (via a mobile application or a browser) and send an e-mail to gsfstaj@gelisim.edu.tr using the student e-mail address.
Those whose internship place is in Istanbul should hand over the internship start form in 3 copies.
The insurance procedures of the students whose application form is approved are initiated by Istanbul Gelişim University.
Do we have the right to be absent from the internship? Is our internship considered invalid when we are absent?
A student who does not attend his internship for at least nine working days without an excuse is deemed to have never done an internship.
Will my internship period be extended if I am absent? Will my insurance continue?
Work days equal to the excused/unexcused absence period are added to the internship period. In this case, upon the application of the student, additional insurance is made for the missing days. If the student or the internship place does not report this situation, the responsibility belongs to them. Additional insurance is made for the student who optionally extends the determined internship period. If the student or the internship place does not report this situation, the responsibility belongs to them.
How many working days should we calculate in a week during the internship?
In internship programs, a week is considered to be five working days. In workplaces that work on Saturday, Saturday is also considered a working day. In institutions where Saturday is not worked, Saturday should not be included in the internship. In addition, Sundays, public holidays, and holidays should not be included in the internship. Even if the institution works on Sundays, public holidays, and holidays, it should not be included in the internship process. In other words, when determining the dates, official and religious holidays should be calculated by subtracting the number of internship days: July 15, Democracy and National Unity Day, Feast of Sacrifice and Eve, and August 30 Victory Day.
If I do my 60-day internship in one go, how should I prepare the form and notebook?
In addition, a student studying in our department before graduating must have done an internship for 60 working days. 60 working days can be done in a single time, or it can be done in the form of 30+30 working days.
Those who will do 60 working days at once should fill in two separate forms (one form for 30 days and the second form for 30 days). You can start the start date of the second internship from the end of the first internship.
In addition, you need to prepare the internship notebook as 2 separate notebooks. Single notebooks (60 days) will not be accepted.
Can I extend my internship period? If I extend it, will my insurance continue?
For the student who extends the determined internship period voluntarily, no additional insurance is made.
Sundays should not be included in the internship.
I have completed my compulsory internship. If there is a place where I want to do another internship, can I do a voluntary internship?
