Two projects from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design accepted to the COP31 CoHE Pavilion

Two projects prepared by the faculty members and a student of Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, were entitled to take place in the COP31 CoHE (Council of Higher Education) Pavilion as a result of the evaluations carried out under the coordination of the Council of Higher Education. The projects offer solutions to sustainability and climate change issues in the context of academic cooperation and technological integration.

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) earned the right to participate with three important projects to be featured in the COP31 CoHE Pavilion as a result of the evaluation process carried out under the coordination of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE). Two of the accepted projects were prepared by Asst. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Erol, Asst. Prof. Dr. Gökçe Uzgören, and Res. Asst. Merve Karadaban Özen, academics of the IGU Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, along with Özge Naz Kamiş, a student from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (English).

Climate-Ready Cities Academic Network

The first of the accepted projects, "CR-Cities Academic Network", is designed as an international collaboration platform aiming to bring together the urban planning, architecture, and landscape architecture departments of universities in countries bordering the Mediterranean. On the basis of the project, it is aimed to develop interdisciplinary intervention strategies against regional and global problems such as climate migration, coastal erosion, and urban heat islands, to design a joint certificate program, and to create an open-access information-sharing portal.

Sustainability Performance in Building Approval Processes

The second project, bearing the signatures of our academics and student, will take place in the pavilion under the title "From BIM to Climate Action: Integrating Sustainability Performance into Building Approval Processes". Proposing the integration of sustainability performance into the building approval processes, the study envisions analyzing energy, carbon, water, and material data through Building Information Modeling (BIM/IFC) and artificial intelligence-supported systems. The standard performance score to be produced in this direction is planned to directly contribute to climate-resilient city goals.
