Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), academics continue to produce scientific solutions to social problems. The scientific research project, in which Assist. Prof. Dr. Hande Apak (academic from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design) and Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sezgin Savaş serve as researchers, has been accepted under the TÜBİTAK ARDEP 3005 - Innovative Solutions Research Projects Support Program in Social and Human Sciences.
Region-Specific Design Approach in Post-Disaster Housing
The project aims to develop a region-based model proposal for temporary housing units that can be used during the post-disaster rehabilitation process for different climatic and geographical regions of Türkiye. Instead of uniform housing solutions, a structure is envisioned where climatic conditions are evaluated alongside multiple disaster risks such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, and forest fires.
Decision Support Model with Scientific Methods
In the research, design criteria for temporary housing units will be determined with the contributions of experts from AFAD, relevant public institutions, local governments, and non-governmental organizations. Using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, the priority of various design criteria (energy efficiency, privacy, social cohesion, etc.) in different regions will be scientifically weighted.
Extensive Interdisciplinary Project Team
The project team, which includes faculty members from Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), consists of a strong academic and professional staff:
-
Researchers: Assist. Prof. Dr. Hande APAK (Academic, Dept. of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sezgin SAVAŞ (Vice Dean), Assist. Prof. Dr. Fazilet TUĞRUL OKBAZ, Res. Asst. Dr. Melike KALKAN, Res. Asst. Emine Şeyma ERKAN.
-
Consultants: Prof. Dr. Nilay COŞGUN, Prof. Dr. Nesrin ALPTEKİN, Dr. Tülay İNANÇ.
-
Scholar: Lect. Elif Nur YÜKSEL.
Contribution to Disaster Management Policies
The project outputs are expected to provide a basis for relevant public institutions, especially AFAD, to make faster and science-based decisions in post-disaster rehabilitation processes. The study aims to make a strategic contribution to Türkiye's disaster management strategies by focusing on issues such as climatic comfort, user needs, and rapid applicability.
As Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), we congratulate our esteemed professors involved in this significant project focused on social benefit and wish them success in their work.
