Res. Asst. Merve Karadaban Was The Guest of The Architecture Project Jury

Merve Karadaban, Research Assistant at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, attended the "Architectural Project 6" course of a foundation university as a jury member.

Within the scope of the project carried out by Lecturer Pınar Geçkili Karman, the transformation of educational spaces and Beyoğlu is being questioned. Within the scope of the course, Asst. Prof. Fernaz Öncel and Research Assistant Merve Karadaban made the project evaluations in the interim jury of the Architectural Project 6 course, in which education space projects on the design of the faculty of architecture in Şişhane and Gümüşsuyu, where the mass relations of contemporary forms in the historical area are questioned. Research Assistant Merve Karadaban's views on the students' achievements within the scope of the interim jury and the course are as follows:

“Discussions were held with the students working on the design of the faculty of architecture in Şişhane and Gümüşsuyu on the educational spaces and the transformation of Beyoğlu. While the students were thinking about the existing relations of the spaces, they also examined the potentials that the space can gain with the new pieces to be added. In particular, the students who tried to read the distinction between Şişhane and Kasımpaşa tried to reveal the social, cultural and functional elements of this distinction. In addition, they tried ways to overcome the physical thresholds of this separation, Refik Saydam Street, and the level difference between the two regions and to produce architectural solutions. In addition, the relations between Taksim Square and the neighborhood in the area in Gümüşsuyu and the line of the neighborhood towards the sea were evaluated. As a result of these evaluations, the mass relations of contemporary forms in the historical field were tried to be analyzed with the interim jury held in the week of April 5th. It is aimed to eliminate the deficiencies of these mass proposals as a result of the criticisms made and to find a response in the spatial dimension. In the center of all these urban relations, very productive discussions were carried out with the students and the interim jury was concluded in a very pleasant way.”
