Lecturer Serenay İnceoğlu from Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, successfully completed her Thesis Monitoring Committee meeting held within the scope of the PhD Program in History and Theory of Architecture at Yıldız Technical University.
Lecturer Serenay İnceoğlu gave a presentation on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 14:00 as part of her doctoral thesis titled “Spatial Ideologies of Power: Spaces of Control in Contemporary Screen Narratives.” The thesis examines how the relationships between power, control, and space are represented in contemporary screen narratives within the context of architectural history and theory.
The Thesis Monitoring Committee meeting was held with the participation of her thesis advisor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Işıl Çokuğraş Bağdatlıoğlu from Yıldız Technical University, and committee members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge Gündem from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zafer Sağdıç from Yıldız Technical University.
Space, Power, and Control Relations Are Examined Through Contemporary Screen Narratives
The thesis demonstrates that space in contemporary visual narratives can be considered not merely as a background, but as a theoretical tool that reveals power relations, mechanisms of control, and the invisible structures of social order. In this respect, the study establishes an interdisciplinary ground for discussion between the fields of architectural history and theory and contemporary screen narratives.
We congratulate Lecturer Serenay İnceoğlu on her success in her doctoral thesis process and wish her continued success in her academic studies.
