Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (Turkish & English) students encounter their first career path as they begin their summer internships in their second and third years. Below are important details regarding the process of preparing and submitting internship journals:

PREPARATION OF INTERNSHIP JOURNAL

Matters to be considered when filling out the mandatory summer internship journal:
  • You can download the internship journal from this link.
  • The internship journal can be filled out by hand or in a digital environment. If filling by hand, use a "blue ballpoint/rollerball pen."
  • On the first page of the student's internship file, they should mention the class in which the internship is being conducted during the summer semester. The address and contact information of the workplace should be complete.
  • In the "Record Sheet," the "approved by" section should be filled out by the authorized person at the internship site with name, surname, position, date, signature, and stamp.
  • When filling out the "Record Sheet," if it's the student's first internship, they should check the 1st Group Internship box, and if it's the second internship, they should check the 2nd Group Internship box.
  • Actions performed on each working day should be explained in at least one paragraph.
  • Use formal language and sentences.
  • Prefer passive verb forms in sentences, e.g., "was done," "has been completed."
  • Avoid using first-person singular pronouns like "I did," or "I performed."
  • Visuals supporting the written explanations should be sufficient and placed immediately after the related day.
  • Visuals can be glued or stapled to the internship journal pages. To avoid the risk of losing visuals, attaching them with a paperclip is not recommended.
  • If there are digital images or files, they can be loaded onto a CD and stapled inside the back cover of the internship journal.
  • The "intern student attendance tracking table" on the last page of the internship journal must be completed in line with the dates in the journal. Do not cross out days or make corrections. If a mistake is made, redo the page. The page should be signed and stamped at the bottom.
  • The approval of the authorized person should be present at the end of each workday and on the intern student attendance tracking table.
  • The internship journal should be printed and prepared in a spiral, bound, or stitched format. Transparent folders or stapling methods are not acceptable.
  • There should be no papers jammed, overflowing, or falling out of the journal. The journal should be neatly and orderly submitted.
INTERNSHIP JOURNAL SUBMISSION PROCESS

The internship journal should be submitted to Res. Asst. Gökçe Uzgören, Res. Asst. Tuğçe Öztürk, or Res. Asst. Merve Karadaban for the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (Turkish) or to Res. Asst. Mustafa Dallı for the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (English), in person or through a close associate, within a maximum of 1 month from the end date of the internship.

Students who will submit the journal through a close associate should provide the associate's full name and contact details to the research assistants of the department via email.

INTERNSHIP JOURNAL EVALUATION PROCESS

Internship journals submitted to the department are reviewed by the internship committee every two weeks.

If any of the clauses in the IGU Internship Directive or the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Internship Principles are not met or if there are deficiencies noticed by the committee, the internship journal will not be accepted. The committee reserves the right to interview the student with deficient content in their journal and to ask them questions about the content of the internship journal. Deficiencies will be communicated to the student within a maximum of 1 month.

Deficiencies should be addressed within a maximum of 10 business days, and the updated internship journal should be resubmitted to the department. If the internship journal is not accepted, the student can retrieve their journal.

If all the clauses in the IGU Internship Directive or the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Internship Principles are met, and the committee approves, the internship journal is accepted. Internship journals approved by the committee should be submitted to the IGU Student Affairs Directorate by the end of the semester following the internship.
