 IGU Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design “Minimal” Wooden Birdhouse “Workshop and Exhibition


Istanbul Gelisim University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design students have designed the Wooden Birdhouses with a theme of “minimalism” and they are exhibited at IGU Faculty of Fine Arts.


Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department Head Assistant Professor Dr. Z. Funda Ürük and Research Assistant Gökçe Uzgören are the coordinators of workshop titled “Wooden Birdhouse Design” where the birdhouses were designed and produced. The birdhouses are exhibited at “Second IGU Faculty of Fine Arts Design Days Festival”.

The project aimed to create a collective consciousness to draw attention to the need of shelter animals have, and students have reinterpreted the traditional Birdhouses, which is an aesthetical detail of Turkish architecture and they designed “minimalist” birdhouses with their creative designs. Designs were formed within the context of minimalism concept and based on two geometrical forms (triangle + square, square + circle etc.). 25 students have participated in the workshop, they started with sketching, followed by technical drawings on the digital environment, and then the design turned into a product. At the end of the workshop, Gülbahar Camkesen was awarded the first place, Kübra Peker second place and Zeliha Büşra Bingöl the third place.

Following the workshop, the Wooden Birdhouses Project Exhibition was opened at “Istanbul Gelisim University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Second Design Days Festival” between May 2-3, 2017. Avcilar Municipality Veterinary Director Pervin Kırmızı and her team have attended the exhibition opening.   It is aimed to bring together the designed birdhouses in a design booklet and submit to the municipality in order to establish a university and public partnership.
