When is the earliest I can start my internship?
Within the scope of Summer Internship I and Summer Internship II, which are included in the curriculum of our department, students can do their compulsory internship at the end of the second and third semesters. Students continuing their education can do their internship in the summer term.
Summer semester internships start from the last day of the spring semester final exams. However, before you start your internship as of the last day of the final exams specified in the academic calendar, the internship start date must be notified to our department chair and dean at least 15 days before the internship insurance entry can be made.
In this context, first of all, you need to determine the institution where you will do your internship. Then, the suitability of the relevant institution and the position worked in the institution should be approved by consulting with our department head and our internship coordinator Asst. Prof. Dr. Parvin Heidari and intership comission member Lecturer İbrahim Erol and Lecturer Selcen Nurcan Keskin Urmak. You can also consult department research assistants Tuğçe Öztürk and Merve Karadaban about your questions during this process.
After receiving the relevant approval, fill in the compulsory internship form in the computer environment and sign the student signature part. Have the department head and the internship place officially sign the relevant fields.
Have the internship start form approved by student affairs (at least 15 days before the start of the internship) so that the insurance entry can be made.
If you are going to do your internship in Istanbul, submit your internship initiation form to the Secretariat of the Faculty of Fine Arts in an old, signed form. If you are going to do your internship outside of Istanbul, scan it before you start your internship (via a mobile application or a browser) and send it to gsfstaj@gelisim.edu.tr using your student e-mail.
The insurance procedures of the students whose application form is approved are initiated by Istanbul Gelişim University.
Do we have the right to be absent from the internship? Is my internship considered invalid when we are absent?
A student who does not attend his/her internship for at least nine working days without an excuse is deemed to have never done an internship.
Will my internship period be extended if I am absent? Will my insurance continue?
Work days equal to the excused/unexcused absence period are added to the internship period. In this case, upon the application of the student, additional insurance is made for the missing days. If the student or the internship place does not report this situation, the responsibility belongs to them. Additional insurance is made for the student who extends the determined internship period optionally. If the student or the internship place does not report this situation, the responsibility belongs to them.
How many working days should we calculate in a week during the internship?
In internship programs, a week is considered to be five working days. In workplaces that work on Saturday, Saturday is also considered a working day. In institutions where Saturday is not worked, the internship should not include Saturday.
Before graduating, a student studying in our department must have done an internship for 60 working days. 60 working days can be done in a single time, or it can be done in the form of 30+30 working days. However, the points to be noted here are as follows:
• Sundays should not be included in the internship.
• In institutions where Saturday is not worked, the internship should not include Saturday.
• The part “Does he/she have insurance in another institution?” in the form must be marked by the student.
• When determining the dates, official and religious holidays should be calculated by subtracting from the number of internship days: July 15, Democracy and National Unity Day, Feast of Sacrifice and Eve, and August 30 Victory Day.
Can I extend my internship period? If I extend it, will my insurance continue?
No additional insurance is made for the student who extends the determined internship period voluntarily.
Sundays should not be included in the internship.
I have completed my compulsory internship. If there is a place where I want to do another internship, can I do a voluntary internship?
Students who have compulsory internship in their curriculum cannot do internships voluntarily.
What should I do if I have insurance?
In the form, “Does he/she have insurance at another institution?” part must be marked as “yes”.
How long does it take to deliver my internship notebook after the internship is over?
It must be submitted in September before the new semester starts.
Can I work if I am asked to work on public holidays?
Official and religious holidays are not considered working days. While determining the dates, official and religious holidays should be calculated by subtracting the number of internship days.

The internship book can be filled in manually or on a computer.
Actions taken each working day should be explained in at least one paragraph of writing.
Formal expressions and sentences should be used in the articles.
It should be preferred to use passive verbs in sentences. For example; Like “made” or “made”.

Images supporting the written explanations should be sufficient and placed following the relevant day.
Images can be pasted or stapled to the internship notebook (no documents-photos should be attached to the internship notebook pages with paper clips in case the images are lost).
If there are digital images and files, they can be loaded onto a CD and stapled to the inside of the back cover of the internship notebook.
The “intern student attendance follow-up chart” on the last page of the internship book must be filled by the dates in the internship book.
The approval of the authorized person
(must be an architect or interior architect) from the internship should be at the end of the page and in the intern student attendance follow-up sheet every workday.
The internship notebook should be printed and turned into a notebook by choosing one of 3 different methods as spiral, bound, or backed. Other methods such as transparent files and stapling are not accepted.
There should not be any documents stuck in the book, overflowing from the book or that may fall, and the book should be delivered in a tidy manner.
How is the internship book submission process?
The internship book must be submitted to the department in return for a signature, within 1 month at the latest from the internship end date. The internship book of students who submit more than 1 month later will not be received.
The notebook can be delivered in two ways, in person or by a close intermediary.
Students who will send the notebook to the department with their relatives should send the name and surname of the person who will deliver it to the research assistants of the department via e-mail.
How is the internship book evaluation process?
The internship commission meets every two weeks to check the notebooks of the students who have submitted the internship notebook to the department.
If any of the items in the IGU Internship Directive or Communication and Design Internship Principles are not provided or if it is deemed incomplete by the internship commission, the internship book will not be accepted. The internship commission has the right to interview the student whose internship book is missing and to ask questions about the content of the internship book. The missing places are notified to the student by the internship commission within 1 month at the latest. Deficiencies are completed by the student within a maximum of 10 working days and the updated internship book is delivered to the department again. If the internship book is not accepted, the student can take it back.
If all the items in the IGU Internship Directive or Communication and Design Internship Principles are met and the internship commission deems it appropriate, the internship book is approved. The internship books approved by the internship commission are delivered to the IGU Student Affairs Office by the end of the semester following the internship at the latest.
Students who will do an internship must read the internship directive and know their rights and responsibilities.
