Gökçe Uzgören Attended “A Beyoğlu Memory Meeting in Purgatory”
Gökçe Uzgören, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, participated in the "Beyoğlu Memory Meeting in Purgatory" held at TMMOB Chamber of Architects Büyükkent Branch on April 2, 2022.
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Gökçe Uzgören, in cooperation with IMM City Planning Directorate, Istanbul Planning Agency, Istanbul City Council and TMMOB Chamber of Architects on April 2, 2022 at 14:00. He also participated in “A Beyoğlu Memory Meeting in Purgatory” held at the Istanbul Metropolitan Branch of the Chamber of Architects of TMMOB.
The director of the TÜBİTAK 1001 Research Project, in which Gökçe Uzgören is in the project team, Prof. Dr. The meeting, which started with Asuman Türkün's presentation of the results of the research, continued with a forum in which the participants presented their views under the moderation of Aslı Sarıoğlu. Beyoğlu participated in the meeting organized within the scope of the Beyoğlu-Your Project, which was carried out in cooperation with the Istanbul Planning Agency, "to reveal the academic researches, public agendas, civil society studies, and the reasons for the needs and problems of the citizens, to discuss and evaluate together, and to plan the future of Beyoğlu with a participatory process". A large number of people who live, work, feel from Beyoğlu and contribute with their invaluable views at various stages of the research project titled "Decisive Factors and Possible Scenarios in the Reconstruction of Historical City Centers: The Case of Beyoğlu", supported by TÜBİTAK. In the forum section of the memory meeting, “Which do you think was the best period/years of Beyoğlu, why?” and “What do you think should be done to preserve the vitality and diversity of Beyoğlu?” A discussion environment was created about Beyoğlu's past, present and future.
Gökçe Uzgören shared her feelings and thoughts on “A Beyoğlu Memory Meeting in Purgatory” as follows:
“As part of the research project, oral history and in-depth interviews were conducted with more than a hundred people. It was very valuable to come together with the very valuable names we interviewed as part of the Arafta Bir Beyoğlu Memory Meeting, to present the results of the project to them, and to receive their ideas and suggestions. I sincerely believe that the research will be enriched with these feedbacks and will contribute to very important decisions for the future of Beyoğlu.”
