Interior Architecture And Environmental Design

First Prize in Architecture and Innovation for the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design!

Organized by Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), the “Research and Innovative Award-Winning Project Competition,” where ideas shaping the future compete, has concluded. The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design achieved great success by winning the first prize with a visionary project in the category of “Architecture, Design, Creativity, and Visual Innovation.”

In the competition held within Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) to strengthen the research ecosystem and encourage interdisciplinary innovative solutions, Özge Naz Kamiş, a student from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, was awarded first place. Her project, developed alongside advisor Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol, received the highest score in its category.

Synergy of Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability in Architectural Design
The first-prize-winning project, titled “Proposal for an AI-Powered and Sustainable Adaptive Facade System to Mitigate the Harmful Effects of Solar Radiation on Individuals and Interior Components,” offers a technological solution to the environmental challenges of modern architecture. The project proposes a "smart skin" that tracks the movement of the sun and operates with artificial intelligence algorithms to optimize interior comfort.

A Smart Solution Protecting Both the User and the Space
This innovative facade system maximizes the thermal and visual comfort of individuals while minimizing the deformation effects—such as fading and wear—caused by solar radiation on furniture and structural components. Simultaneously, the system contributes to sustainable energy management by significantly reducing the building's air conditioning load, bringing technology and space together on a human-centered design platform.

IGU’s Contribution to the Design Parameters of the Future
This competition, organized by our university, once again demonstrated the competence of students in merging theoretical knowledge with sectoral and technological innovations. Project advisor Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol expressed his satisfaction with the embodiment of IGU’s research-and-development-oriented education approach through such awards, emphasizing the importance of artificial intelligence in architectural practice.

We congratulate our student Özge Naz Kamiş and our faculty advisor Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol for their first-place success in this prestigious competition and wish them continued success.
