Also providing an environment for sharing studies on their own fields, creating interdisciplinary working opportunities were targeted.

Dr. Cansın İlayda Çetin shared her thoughts on the paper that focuses on the re-functioning of factory structures, which she attended the symposium, as follows:

“It is very important for the preservation of history to examine the touristic structure that emerged during the transformation of the old industrial space remaining in the city, within the framework of aesthetic concerns. As it is known, industrial buildings left in the city; which have been abandoned due to changes in production systems and technology, pollution factors and other economic reasons. These idle buildings, which remained in the city, have been the subject of urban transformation researches with the aim of bringing them into urban life over time. One of the products of these efforts has shown itself as a hotel structure converted from a factory. The material of the research is the flour factory structure, which allows commercial production and storage of flour mills, especially in the port regions of Italy at the end of the 19th century. The important thing in transforming buildings is to revitalize the function of the building without compromising its traditional location, composition, balance and connection with the environment. In parallel with this, as a result of the research, a conclusion is reached on how historical buildings can be made more effective and efficient.”
