The Rapid Support Project titled "Building Stock Analysis in Beyoğlu Urban Conservation Area Cihangir Pilot Region: 2014-2026 Period Transformation Inventory," led by Asst. Prof. Gökçe Uzgören, an academic from Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (IAED), has been accepted by the IGU Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Coordinatorship.

Project Team and Multidisciplinary Approach

The research team includes Architect Dr. Dilek Şişman, President of the Cihangir Beautification Association; Res. Asst. Merve Karadaban Özen; Urban Planner Ayşe Akbay, a master's student in the Urban Design Program at Istanbul Technical University (ITU); and Şevval Göre, an undergraduate student at the IGU Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, as researchers. Bringing together experts and students from different disciplines, the project offers a multidimensional perspective on urban studies.

12-Year Transformation Inventory of Cihangir

Based on the fundamental inventory data created in 2014, the project aims to document the change over the last 12 years, where the transformation has intensified, through 436 buildings in the selected pilot region. With the study covering the 2014-2026 period, it is aimed to document the changes and transformations in the building stock in Cihangir, analyze the existing building fabric, and reveal the transformation dynamics of the region.

It is anticipated that the comprehensive inventory to be created as a result of the study will provide a significant scientific data infrastructure for the discussions and strategies to be carried out for the protection of Cihangir's authentic urban fabric and historical memory.
