Hosted by Beyoğlu Municipality, in partnership with the European Commission and the Council of Europe, and under the coordination of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the events took place between September 12–20, 2026. This year, the events were organized internationally under the theme "Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine." Heritage at Risk Discussed in Beyoğlu
In this context, a panel titled "The Urban Development and Architecture of Cihangir, the Cultural Face of Beyoğlu" was held at Metrohan on September 16, 2026, in partnership with the Cihangir Beautification Association and the Beyoğlu City Council. Speaking alongside Dr. Architect Dilek Şişman during the session, Assist. Prof. Dr. Gökçe Uzgören addressed the historical and spatial transformation processes of the Cihangir neighborhood in detail.
Historical Fabric of Cihangir and the Conservation-Oriented Building Inventory Project
During the panel, speakers comprehensively evaluated the stages of urban and social development Cihangir has experienced since the 15th century, the characteristics and styles of the surviving architectural heritage in the neighborhood, and the losses caused by increased demolitions in recent years. In addition to discussing threats to the historical fabric and potential solutions, the event introduced the upcoming project titled "Updated Building Inventory Study for Conservation in Cihangir," designed as a follow-up effort.
The event, which carries great significance for translating the academic expertise developed within the IGU Faculty of Fine Arts into active platforms for urban culture and heritage preservation, drew strong interest from attendees. By bringing academic circles and civil society organizations together, the panel created valuable awareness around transferring Cihangir's tangible and intangible heritage to future generations.
