The article titled "The Evaluation of the Proposed Operational Scheme for a Field Hospital Designed After an Earthquake Using the Space Syntax Method" by Res. Asst. Hatice Çoban, a faculty member of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), has been published in the PLANARCH (Design and Planning Research) journal.
The relevant article addresses the operational processes and spatial organizations of temporary healthcare facilities established following disaster situations. In the aftermath of extraordinary events such as earthquakes, field hospitals are put into operation if existing hospitals become unusable or fail to meet the healthcare needs of the region. In this published study, the interior planning and circulation arrangements of these temporary facilities are evaluated within a general framework.
The functional use of limited areas in temporary healthcare facilities is a necessity for sustaining the operational activities of medical units. Based on this necessity, the article examines the planning processes for the architectural schemes of field hospitals and presents objective evaluations of spatial efficiency. Furthermore, it serves as a current resource for the architectural planning of field hospitals, constituting a reference for academics working in this field.
We congratulate Research Assistant Hatice Çoban and wish her continued success.
